| By launching Renault eco² in Europe in 2007, Renault is demonstrating its commitment made several years ago to reduce environmental impacts on the car’s complete lifecycle. Renault confirms that the response to major ecological challenges comes through technological progress that may be made available to the largest number of vehicles and that are affordable for customers. The Renault eco² signature is awarted to vehicles that are • ecological (results can be measured at all stages in the lifecycle) • economical (notably in terms of fuel consumption) A vehicle is awarded the Renault eco² signature when it satisfies three criteria at the same time.
CO2 emissions A Renault eco² vehicle : • emits less than 140g of CO2 per km, • runs on E85 ethanol, • or runs on B30 biodiesel. Vehicles which emit less than 140g/km are vehicles that consume less than 6l/100km and produce few greenhouse gas emissions. Using biofuel also helps reduce CO2 emissions : the plants used to manufacture biofuels absorb CO2 present in the atmosphere while they are growing (photosynthesis).
Production Renault eco² vehicles are produced in ISO 14001 certified industrial sites. This ISO 14001 standard validates the progress made by an industrial site in reducing water and energy consumption, visual and noise annoyance and atmospheric and fluid discharge. Recycling A Renault eco² vehicle may be recovered up to 95% at the end of its life and includes at least 5% recycled plastic (= produced by recycling plastic waste). Depending on the Renault models, this percentage may vary between 5 and 13% of the total plastic content, which corresponds to a total of 5 to 20kg recycled plastic in the vehicle.
